Fayre Costume Ideas for Ladies: The Warm Victorian Lady

Ladies, here is a wonderfully simple way to create an elegant Victorian look for the Fayre, perfectly suited to a chilly December day. The key is layers and accessories to create the right silhouette and warmth.

  • The Base: A long (maxi) skirt (wear warm leggings/tights underneath!) and a high-necked, long-sleeved blouse (a smart shirt buttoned all the way up, worn over a thermal top, is perfect).

  • The Key Item: A substantial shawl, pashmina, or small capelet in wool or velvet. This instantly creates that Victorian shape and provides vital warmth.

  • The Finishing Touches: A simple bonnet, a small "percher" hat on a clip, or just a flower in your hair. A simple brooch at the neck of your blouse looks fantastic. Don't forget warm gloves and comfortable, sensible shoes!

It's a comfortable, elegant, and fun way to step back in time with us, while staying perfectly cosy!

Don't forget, we have free costume competitions for children every hour! Just come and register your child at the main Keswick Victorian Fayre stall when you arrive.

We love seeing adults in costume, too. After all, what's a Victorian fayre without a top hat or two?
