Fayre Costume Ideas for Men: The Warm Victorian Gentleman

A cartoon diagram showing a man in a warm Victorian gentleman's costume with a top hat, waistcoat, and overcoat
Gents, this is your chance! Dressing as a Victorian Gentleman is easier than you think, and can be easily adapted for Keswick's December weather. You don't need a full three-piece suit—it's all about strategic layers and key accessories.

  • The Base: Any smart, long-sleeved shirt (worn over a thermal vest!) and dark trousers.

  • The Waistcoat: This is essential for that Victorian look. Layer a thin jumper under it for warmth, or a smart tweed jacket/blazer over it.

  • The Hat: This is where you make your mark! After all, what's a Victorian fayre without a top hat? A bowler or a smart flat cap also works perfectly.

  • The Finishing Touches: A warm cravat (a simple neck scarf), a bow tie, or a pocket watch chain. A smart overcoat or wool jacket completes the look and keeps you warm.

Join in the fun—we'd love to see a town full of top hats!

Don't forget, we have free costume competitions for children every hour! Just come and register your child at the main Keswick Victorian Fayre stall when you arrive.

We love seeing adults in costume, too. After all, what's a Victorian fayre without a top hat or two?
